THIFF Forum Meeting: Poverty

Monday, 23rd September 20196:00 pm - 8:00 pmOld Ford Methodist Church, 522 Old Ford Road, Bow, E3 2LYPoverty in Tower Hamlets

Tower Hamlets is the 10th most deprived local authority in England and has the highest rate of pensioner poverty in England and the highest rate of child poverty in the UK. However, there are many faith and community groups in Tower Hamlets that are trying to tackle the complex issues that cause poverty, to ease the problems that arise and to help people navigate their way out of poverty.

Speakers:

  • Denise Brewster (Quaker Social Action). Denise will be speaking about the Down to Earth and Made of Money projects run by QSA, who are based in Tower Hamlets.
  • Elizabeth Marshall (Bow Foodbank), on about food poverty in the area and the work of the foodbank that operates at St Mary’s Church.
  • Met Police with our standing item of ‘faith hate crime statistics.’

Come along and join the discussion – how can faith and community groups work to end poverty? How can they work with statutory services to fight poverty? Can we do more to help people get out of poverty?

The meeting is also a great way to share information about projects or events that you may have on the horizon and to meet other faith and community leaders.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served!
